Carey Sumpter Bsc (Hons) - Registered DietitianA Dietitian uses the best scientific evidence to devise eating plans for individuals (taking into consideration medical conditions) and supports positive change in food choices using motivational techniques; they can also work with groups and communities. As a Dietitian I must be registered with the Health Professions Council (membership number: DT 14667 www.hpc-uk.org) therefore I am bound to a strict code of conduct with a professional responsibility on a par with Dentists, Paramedics, etc. I am also a member of the British Dietetic Association (www.bda.uk.com). Since qualifying in 2005 I have worked full time in the NHS and currently hold a senior post in the Cornwall NHS Trusts. I have experience working with a wide range of medical issues including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, cholesterol, poly cystic ovarian syndrome, weight management, gastric surgery, allergy & intolerance, coeliac disease, ME/CFS, eating disorders, MS, and liver disease with a special interest in mental health, behaviour change and optimum nutrition. Having also worked in mental health, community theatre, catering and community living, I’ve developed an informed and inspired approach to dietetics. I also practice a life-changing buddhist philosophy (Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo) teaching that any obstacle (to absolute happiness) can be overcome. This manifests in an active membership of a charitable organisation (www.sgi-uk.org) which promotes peace through heart-to-heart dialogue, culture and education. Penwith is my home; I live here with my partner and our elderly cat. November 2009 |
