What is Chiropractic?
Although it shares similarities with other health professions, its emphasis and application distinguishes it from other forms of medicine.
Chiropractors focus more on the holistic (total person) approach of the mind, body and spirit. It is a treatment based on natural laws.
By adjusting the spine and other major joints where needed, Chiropractic restores the function of your spine. It gently frees your nervous symptom to allow your body to co-ordinate and heal more effectively. You are better able to reach your maximum heath potential and enjoy life more fully.
How we treat
The clinic offers health care based on the McTimoney School of Chiropractic. This was developed in the UK in the 1950’s. It is one of the three colleges currently existing in the UK, qualified to educate and train Chiropractors.
McTimoney is quite distinctive in its approach to patient care, in that it offers:
- A whole body approach not simply concerned with the prime area of dysfunction.
- The actual adjustment is gentle and non-invasive, often utilising the latest activator technologies.
- The patient is given time, often each treatment session will run 30 minutes.
Your first visit
Stringent guidelines set by our governing body determine your first visit.
You will be asked to attend 10 minutes before your booked appointment, to complete a form requesting key information. All information disclosed will be held in the strictest of confidence.
Your consultation will cover the following:
- History of your problem
- Detailed examination of past medical and health issues
- Physical examination (women offered gowns)
- Review of findings
By the nature of how we work, you will often receive your first treatment as part of that consultation.
X-rays and any subsequent examinations are generally the exception, but will normally be arranged through your GP if thought necessary.
A Partnership
We recognise that chiropractic care is not simply spinal adjustment or joint manipulation. Its success relies on the strong relationship and trust between practitioner and patient. The three core components are:
- Manual therapies, that can include trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue massage.
- Exercises and rehabilitation tailored to your specific needs.
- Patient advice, education and motivation.
